The non-involved owner is the most common profile. It corresponds to a simple and regulated way of owning racehorses.
In practice :
- You entrust your horse entirely to a trainer.
- You do not participate in its training or in sporting or technical decisions.
- The relationship is formalized by a standard contract between you and the trainer.
Tax regime :
- Race winnings and owner bonuses: exempt from income tax.
- In return, expenses incurred (training, stabling, etc.) are not deductible.
- Any potential losses cannot be offset.
In case of horse sale :
- Capital gains on the sale remain taxable under the movable property gains regime.
- An exemption applies if the sale price is less than or equal to €5,000.
- A 5% allowance per year of ownership beyond the second year is applied.
VAT :
The non-involved owner is generally not subject to VAT.
