The price of a racehorse varies depending on its age, pedigree, and performance. France Galop recommends getting in touch with a trainer or a bloodstock agent to guide you through your purchase.
Buying options :
- Foal: purchased directly from the breeder or through auction sales.
- Yearling (1 year old): auction sales organized from August onwards, allowing you to select a young horse for its future development.
- 2-year-olds: “Breeze-Up” sales in spring, where horses are shown galloping on the track.
- Ready-to-race horses (from 2 years old): private purchase from a trainer or through public auctions. Some “claiming races” also allow you to buy a horse at a price listed in the race programme by submitting a sealed bid.
