What are the specific characteristics of a non-involved owner?

The non-involved owner is the most common profile. It corresponds to a simple and regulated way of owning racehorses.

In practice :

  • You entrust your horse entirely to a trainer.
  • You do not participate in its training or in sporting or technical decisions.
  • The relationship is formalized by a standard contract between you and the trainer.

Tax regime :

  • Race winnings and owner bonuses: exempt from income tax.
  • In return, expenses incurred (training, stabling, etc.) are not deductible.
  • Any potential losses cannot be offset.

In case of horse sale :

  • Capital gains on the sale remain taxable under the movable property gains regime.
  • An exemption applies if the sale price is less than or equal to €5,000.
  • A 5% allowance per year of ownership beyond the second year is applied.

VAT :

The non-involved owner is generally not subject to VAT.
