Becoming an owner as part of a group is a common way to share costs while fully enjoying the racehorse ownership experience. France Galop oversees this arrangement to ensure a clear and transparent structure between partners.
A horse may be owned by an association made up of up to 20 shareholders. All partners must be approved by France Galop as registered owners.
The association is formalised through a partnership agreement, which specifies:
- The identity of the partners
- The distribution of ownership shares
- The appointment of the managing owner
The managing owner must be approved as a “colours owner.” They hold and register the racing colours under which the horses of the association are entered, and officially represent the partnership before France Galop and racing professionals (trainers, breeders, veterinarians, etc.).
The other partners are approved as associate owners. They share ownership of the horse and benefit from the rights attached to their status.
Once completed and signed, the partnership agreement must be submitted to France Galop for official recognition of ownership.
